Let Us Help You Find the Perfect Match!

Our goal is to place rescued dogs into loving homes and families. We take special care to match the right home with the right dog, striving for a lifetime of love for both the pet and the adopter. To ensure the best matches are made, we have a proven effective process that helps determine the best homes for our animals.

Our adoption process may seem time-consuming or unnecessarily complicated, but please understand that we have our dogs’ best interests at heart. We strive to find the best homes possible for our dogs, as well as find the right dog for you and your lifestyle. We thank you for your time and patience throughout our adoption process.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Much Does Adopting Cost?

Our adoption fee is $175.  Thanks to the ongoing support of our generous donors, we continue to offer one of the lowest rescue adoption fees in North Texas.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION PROCESS?

1. Submit Application. We require an application as the 1st step – before a meet-&-greet can be scheduled.
We do not adopt on a first-come, first-served basis.

2. Meet the Pet. We schedule meet-and-greets with foster families and potential adopters to meet the dog and discuss. We do not adopt on site.

3. Home Check. We require a home check and vet reference check.

4. Sign Adoption Contract. We have an adoption agreement that needs to be signed.

5. Pay Fee. Our adoption fee must be paid prior to the dog coming home.

6. Take the Pet Home. We begin all adoptions with a trial period (typically 2 weeks) to ensure it’s a good fit for everyone.

WHAT IS YOUR ADOPTION AREA?

Due to the nature of our adoption process, our fosters are usually only able to consider forever families within a reasonable driving distance of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

Will I need Additional Veterinarian Services?

Every pet requires veterinary care, even if only for regular check-ups and preventive healthcare/medicines (e.g., heartworm prevention).  We will do our best to disclose the underlying medical condition of any dog you are planning to adopt.

WHAT IF I DECIDE I DON'T WANT TO KEEP THE DOG?

If after your trial period you decide that the dog you chose is not working out, we will take the dog back and work with you to find another dog if we can.  If you decide you can’t keep the dog after the adoption process is complete, you are required to return to dog to I Am Dog Rescue so we can find another home for the dog.
